Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story Concerto and quartets by Ludwig van Beethoven and Joan Tower.
This powerful work from Beethoven’s ‘heroic’ middle period plumbs the depths of human experience, ranging from tragedy, triumph, tenderness, and uncertainty in the first three movements to sheer effervescent joy in the virtuosic finale. Randall Fleischer’s arrangement of Bernstein’s beloved West Side Story takes the drama and makes it concrete, presenting well known themes in a new setting that showcases the richness of both the string quartet and orchestra.
